Speed Freaks at parkrun video

Speed Freaks commit to their health and wellbeing, participation, inclusion and paying it forward. In addition to walking and running sessions during the week, Speed Freaks groups have become a regular attendees at parkruns around New Zealand.

Meet Simone

Simone is one of Speed Freaks' 12 peer volunteers. She is a valued member of the whānau through sharing her lived experience and committing to movement as medicine for recovery.

Meet Eden

Eden is the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland programme coordinator for Speed Freaks.

Meet Julia

Julia is a Speed Freaks volunteer coach in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Julia brings her own lived experience to her role, and she says you can often find her at the back of the pack on walks/runs because Speed Freaks' motto is that they don't leave anybody behind.

Meet John

John has grown confidence while a member of Speed Freaks, which led him to becoming a peer volunteer whose role it is to use his own passion to help others.

Meet Tineke

Tineke is on her third shot at recovery, and without Speed Freaks she says she doesn't know where she would be.

Meet Alan

Manukau Speed Freaks lead coach Alan takes the lead in conversation from whoever he is running with, because it is important Speed Freaks are comfortable to come along, move, and connect without judgement.

Meet Aisea

Speed Freaks is a way not only to help in Aisea's recovery, but to reconnect with his daughters after more than three years in prison kept them apart. His daughters have now started joining him on runs.
